Geometry Syllabus
Introduction: This syllabus covers one year of secondary study, with students meeting every day for a 40 minute session. Each topic is explored through online resources with visuals and interactive activities, in addition to teacher-developed lesson plans and explanations presented using a smart board and various software applications. Students can further explore each topic in class, and outside of class, using the web sites provided and the links within each. I have also included additional lesson plans and resources to assist other teachers using this web site. Some of the materials I use refer to Regents A and B, which are New York State Math Regents Exams required for high school graduation.

I. TOPICS:

Euclidean Topics ranging from point, lines, planes to transformations.

I. RULES:
1) Common Courtesy is expected.
2) All electronic equipment including cellphones, walkmans, pagers, MP3’s, Palm Pilots, etc. will be turned off and out of site before entering the building.
3) Food or drinks will be eaten only at designated times and areas.
4) Students are expected to remain in the classroom for the entire period.

II. CLASS PARTICIPATION/ATTENDANCE:
Students earn 10 points a day when they are on time and in class the entire period and do the assigned work.
A. Credit will be received when a student has earned at least 80% class participation points AND completed ALL assignments.
B. Lateness or leaving early count as one-half an absence. A late advisee earns 5 points, not 10 for the day.
C. A student who is late every day will be ineligible for credit.
D. A student who is more than 15 minutes late will be counted absent and earn zero class participation points.
E. Class Trips: Students who are absent because they went on a class trip will be counted absent until the work/time required for the missed day is made up.

III. WORK EXPECTATIONS:

Students are expected to be in class, on time and engaged in classroom activities on a regular basis for the entire period. In addition, students are expected to complete work in a timely manner.
Students who begin the class at a late date are responsible for missed assignments.
Students who are absent are expected to make up all missed assignments.

IV. GENERAL GRADE DETERMINATION:

1) Class Participation: A student must have a class participation grade of at least 80% in order to receive credit.
A student on time and engaged in class work the entire period receives 10 points for the day. A student who is late (less than 15 minutes) but goes directly to work will receive 5 points. A student who is not engaged in class work will receive zero points for the day.
2) Completed assignments and projects. A student must have an average of at least 65 in order to receive credit.

V. TESTS AND QUIZZES
Students must have a passing test and quiz average in order to be considered for credit.
Make up tests will be given to those students who have an excused absence. Make-ups will be given for all exams at the end of the cycle on a specified day.
